Another natural-process metaphor for "the economy"

Given bad economic reports of late, President Obama is again emphasizing how bad things were when he took office.

"This economy took a big hit," Obama told Chrysler employees in Toledo on Friday, referring to the recession that hit in 2008. "You know, it's just like if you had a bad illness, if you got hit by a truck, it's going to take a while for you to mend."

Well, there goes the rubber-ball theory of economics, which has been replaced by the wound-healing theory of economics under which the best thing we can do is lay in bed and drink plenty of fluids. But many Americans are probably doing pretty much that already. What Obama forgot to mention is that he's driving the truck, and has been periodically running over us while we're down.
