(CBS/AP) SAN FRANCISCO - In her first television interview, an emotional Jaycee Lee Dugard talked about why she was speaking out about the pain and determination she felt as she was held captive for nearly two decades by convicted sex offender Phillip Garrido.
I suspect that Dugard was rescued and Garrido and his wife arrested, etc. only because it was no longer possible to pretend that nothing was going on at their little outpost of Hell. At one point, a neighbor reported to the police that there were children LIVING IN THE BACK YARD, and they did nothing but gab with their buddy at the front door for a while. None of those who "failed" to smell a rat after 60 VISITS to Garrido's pit are being held responsible - as usual, the culprits remain anonymous while the taxpayers pay for their "goofs." Garrido claims to have heard "angels," so naturally, the authorities say he was just insane. Garrido's wife's attitude, including her sanctimony and zest for lying, as overheard in a video she apparently shot while running a probation officer out of the house, reminds me of a witch with whom I unfortunately became acquainted over a course of months.
