Land of the free?

(Reuters) - A nurse who treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone but has tested negative for the virus ventured out of her home in Maine and took a bike ride on Thursday, defying a quarantine order and setting up a legal collision with state authorities.
Hickox says she is completely healthy and has been monitoring her condition and taking her temperature twice a day.

The nerve of some people. She should just obey unquestioningly - it's the new normal in America, land of the free. The government doesn't need a good reason to order us around - mass hysteria was good enough for Nazi Germay (which was also a free country, according to the propaganda posters), so it's good enough for us.

Government officials must stop spreading Ebola hysteria

(Reuters) - Federal health officials on Monday called for voluntary home quarantine for people at the highest risk for Ebola infection but said most medical workers returning from West Africa would require daily monitoring without isolation.

from U.S. CDC says returning Ebola medical workers should not be quarantined

This is a sane approach, as long as monitoring is strictly enforced, in contrast to the hysteria in response to the case of the healthcare worker who developed symptoms while living at large in NYC. Such hysteria is expensive and undermines our faith in our ability to know anything.

We have to stop acting as if someone who just develops symptoms was spreading the disease even before he developed symptoms. If the disease were as contagious as some speculate, we would know by now.

Ebola terrorism

A doctor who arrived in New York City from the Ebola stricken country of Guinea has tested positive for the Ebola virus, making him the fourth confirmed case in the United States.... New York officials are scrambling to identify potentially hundreds of individuals he may have come into contact with.

Once again demonstrating that the US government is the world's biggest terrorist. Will anyone lose their job over this? Not unless they mention the use of IV sodium ascorbate to save people from this disease.

Internet access granted for mere money!

In fairness to my ISP, I should mention that my service is now back to its normal adequate 2g self. I don't know why, but it might have something to do with my acquisition of a Hauppauge Colossus video encoder card which allows me to record my Ubuntu-PC's screen with excellent resolution with my Windows PC. I've also added other things which allow me to compress the video to an amazing degree without visibly degrading its resolution, using the Handbrake video transcoder.

However, I have largely lost interest in global affairs, since I'm made my point and all I've been doing lately is repeating myself. Besides, if the world needs me to save it, it's in a lot of trouble.
